2022 – Canadian Photography Workshops

July 30th – Dusk to Dawn: Night Photography Adventure

Develop your night photography skills and capture unique angles of the Canmore area on these almost all night weekend photo adventures!

Event Cost: $295 + GST

Date: July 30th

Join a Canmore local for a full night photographing from dusk to dawn. Learn all about night photography and push your camera to it’s limits as we photograph on the darkest nights of April and July! We will start before sunset to go over your gear and get settled before the night begins. Once it gets dark get ready to be in awe of how your camera sees Canmore by night and if we are lucky we will head to a dark location to photograph the milky way in the early hours of the morning before sunrise!

August 28th – 31st – Milky Way @ Mt Assiniboine

Event Cost: $1350 + GST

MT ASSINIBOINE 2022 (3 night/4 day wilderness photography workshop)

Dark skies, summer wildflowers & alpine hiking What to expect Alpine lakes, wide open views, pristine wilderness, a beautiful trail system, wildflowers, wildlife, and if it’s clear, the opportunity to photograph the night sky punctuated by the giant triangular apex of Mt Assiniboine. This trip is timed to the darkest nights of August so milky way photography will be an option each night after dinner.

A moderate level of fitness is required. Walking distances of between 6 – 10km per day with elevation gains of approximately 300 metres per day to reach the different areas in the region. You will need to be able to carry your camera gear & any necessities with you over these distances. A small group size limited to 6 participants to keep our impact low and maximize your learning experience through my photography instruction & mentoring.

This is a camping based adventure staying at the Magog Lake campground. Participants will need to bring a tent, sleeping bag, & sleeping mat along with food for the duration of our stay with the exception of the first night where I will cook for the group. Experience is recommended but not essential as we will be assisting you with any camp related tasks as needed. It is a great way to unplug, get off the grid and connect with the outdoors!

I am a licensed guide in Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park with current first aid and advanced wilderness first aid certifications & have taken many prior trips into the Mt Assiniboine region. This workshop is suitable for all levels of photography experience as there will be many one on one opportunities throughout our time together. I will be by your side providing all that I know and love about landscape photography. This is a unique & potentially once in a lifetime experience – You will never forget photographing β€˜The Matterhorn of The Rockies’ from the Nublet!

Contact me at nick@mountainphototours.ca to receive more information outlining the itinerary, what to bring, the terms and conditions of participation, booking & refund policies.

* Pricing includes the helicopter flight transportation to and from the area from the Mt Shark helipad, 3 nights camping reservation, 1v1 photography instruction throughout the trip, a professional ACMG/IGA Hiking Guide, and dinner on the first night.

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

A one of a kind β€œBanff stargazing” experience – during this weekend photography workshop you will photograph The Icefields Parkway & David Thompson Country (including Abraham Lake) from unique vantage points and experience the Canadian Rockies during the night as we chase any opportunities to photograph the milky way, the aurora, noctilucent clouds, constellations, planets, & zodiacal light!

Our base near the Icefields Parkway in the heart Banff National Park will allow us to follow in the footsteps of David Thompson, one of Canada’s greatest explorers (also known as ‘Koo Koo Sint’ by the local indigenous people which fittingly translates to ‘the stargazer’).

This workshop will cover a range of shooting conditions including sunset, night time, and morning light but we will focus on night photography and the techniques and strategies needed for you to become a proficient astrophotographer no matter your current skill level or camera gear. All the while you will have access to ask questions of your two instructors, Kahli April and Nick Fitzhardinge.

They will share tips on composition and technical settings to best suit the dark environments to reveal the magic of the milky way & the mountains! What’s Included: Personalized photography Instruction from two experts in the areas of astrophotography & landscape photography.
